The Sensex ended up 94.65 points or 0.4 percent at 24717.99, and the Nifty was up 24.05 points or 0.3 percent at 7510.20.
About 1098 shares have advanced, 1467 shares declined, and 154 shares are unchanged.
Lupin, HUL, Adani Ports, Tata Motors an ITC were top gainers while Coal India, ICICI Bank, BHEL, Tata Steel and NTPC.
